On Friday morning, during a security screening at the Volusia County Courthouse in DeLand, Florida, a man was found to have a dagger hidden under his shoe, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

In a news release, the sheriff’s office said the courthouse’s magnetometer went off as 26-year-old Austin W. Irvine, of DeBary, walked through on Friday morning. Irvine was asked to walk through the magnetometer a second time and it went off again, alerting the area around his feet.

After Irvine’s shoes were put through the X-ray, an eight-inch knife was found concealed inside the sole of the right shoe, according to the sheriff’s office. Irvine reportedly told an officer that the shoes were not his and he did not know the knife was in the right shoe. The sheriff’s office did not say why Irvine was at the courthouse.

He was arrested and booked into jail on a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed weapon into a courthouse.
