An Ohio man appeared in court Monday morning after he was accused of posing as a student’s parent and attempting to drug and kidnap a child at a Greene County school.

The 35-year-old Fairborn man, identified as Reid Duran, was apprehended on Aug. 22 after the incident which unfolded at St. Brigid School. According to investigators, Duran attended the school’s “Open House” event, posing as a parent with the intention of attempting to abduct a child.

According to WHIO TV, Duran appeared in person for a bond hearing on Monday morning. Prosecutors wanted to ask the judge to deny Duran bond, but before they could, Duran’s lawyer asked for a continuance, to which the judge agreed. This means Duran will remain in jail without bond.

Last week, St. Brigid’s principal Terry Adkins called 911 to report a trespasser at the school. During the call, Adkins told dispatchers that a gentleman came to the school asking questions and claiming to be the father of a girl. Adkins told the dispatcher that the suspect is not the girl’s father. He then asked the dispatcher to send a police officer because the suspect was posing a threat.

When officers responded to the incident, they questioned Duran in the school parking lot. At first, Duran gave responding officers different stories about why he was at the school before confessing that he came to abduct a child. He was then taken to the Xenia Police Division for further interrogation.

While in an interrogation room, Duran tried to stab a detective with a pen. In a video of the incident obtained by News Center 7 last week, Duran grabbed a pen and attempted to stab the officer but he was swiftly restrained.

Duran later admitted to detectives that he went to the school “trying to find a little girl to obtain sexual favors,” according to the affidavit. He told investigators that his plan was to drug the girl with a tranquilizer-laced Starburst and abduct her when she passed out.

Greene County Prosecutor David Hayes plans to argue that Duran should be held under the condition of no bond because of his original plan and attempt to injure and fight with officers.

Reid Duran’s case is expected to be presented to a Greene County grand jury on Wednesday. Detectives said an investigation is ongoing to determine if there is any truth to some of the statements made by Duran initially after he was apprehended.
