A massive group of migrants crossed into the U.S. illegally on Monday waving a large Venezuelan flag after reportedly attacking Border Patrol agents. However, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the agents pushed them back into the river using crowd control measures.
The invasion-like incident, which was partially caught on video, involves a group of illegal Venezuelan migrants crossing into El Paso, Texas. The footage shows the migrants waving the enormous flag as Border Patrol agents are seen pushing them back into the river while firing pepper balls near them as crowd control.
According to Fox News, the group had attempted to enter the United States illegally while protesting along the Rio Grande’s international boundary.
Furthermore, the news outlet, citing CBP, said one of the migrants had assaulted a Border Patrol agent with a flagpole, while a second migrant stoned another agent, injuring him. Border Patrol subsequently initiated crowd control measures as a result of the attacks.
“These measures included the use of the authorized less-lethal force pepper ball launching system,” CBP’s statement said. “The crowd then dispersed and returned to Mexico.”
The agency said the incident in under review.
