A California suspected carjacker attacked two paramedics with the San Francisco Fire Department on Monday and stole their ambulance, according to authorities.

The incident occurred at approximately 7 a.m. in the 1700 block of Harrison Street in the city’s Mission District. The two paramedics were in the fire department ambulance when they were attacked by the suspect, who was wielding a “stake from a tree,” according to police and the firefighters union.

In a statement, the president of San Francisco Firefighters Local 798, Danny Gracia, said the suspect used the wooden stake he was wielding to shatter the ambulance windows, prompting the paramedics to get out for their own safety.

The assailant then hopped into the ambulance and drove away in a frenzy, apparently trying to run down the paramedics, Gracia told abc7.

According to The San Francisco Standard, the suspect took the ambulance on an incredibly brief joyride before abandoning it in the big-box store’s back lot and fleeing the scene by scaling a fence.

As of now, investigators do not know of any motive behind the attack, in which the two medics were not injured. The incident remains under investigation.
