After conducting an investigation into the death of Miss Alabama 2021, Zoe Sozo Bethel, authorities in Miami revealed that the 27-year-old model and beauty queen “jumped out of a third-floor window” in Florida.
On Feb. 11, around midnight, the Miami Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a “possible suicide attempt.” The Department later confirmed that before they arrived at the scene, the Miami Fire Rescue rushed the beauty queen to the hospital in critical condition. Bethel spent almost two weeks in a coma before succumbing to traumatic brain injuries, the Miami Herald reported.
While in a coma, Bethel’s family reported that their daughter had been involved in an unspecified “accident.” People Magazine later reported that the beauty queen’s cause of death was ruled by the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner as blunt force trauma in a “tragic accident.”
Bethel’s family told the New York Post in a statement that if their daughter had a choice, “she would still be here with us today.”
Bethel’s family revealed their daughter’s death on Sunday via a statement they posted to the pageant star’s Instagram page.
On Friday, February 18, 2022, at approximately 5:30AM Eastern time in Miami, Florida, our beloved Zoe Sozo Bethel passed from this life into the next as a result of succumbing to her injuries.
After her death, Bethel’s family said they did their best to save her. The family also revealed that the mother of one did not have health insurance.

The news of Bethel’s tragedy came weeks after Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst committed suicide by jumping to her death from a Manhattan building.
Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst’s death
Television correspondent, model, and beauty queen Cheslie Kryst died on January 30, 2022, in Midtown Manhattan after jumping from a high-rise. Before leaping to her death, Kryst wrote on her Instagram page, “May this day bring you rest and peace.”
The 30-year-old pageant titleholder was found dead around 7:15 a.m. in the street below her luxury 60-story Orion building at 350 W. 42nd St.
According to sources, Kryst, who lived on the ninth floor of the building, was last seen alone on a 29th-floor terrace before jumping.
Before committing suicide, Kryst reportedly left behind will, saying she wanted to leave everything she owned for her mother. However, Kryst didn’t include a motive for her actions in the note.
